Abstract:
As we are well aware, the world of enterprise software development
the last several years is awash with a veritable alphabet soup of
acronyms, not the least of which is the seemingly ubiquitous 'SOA'.
Everyone is talking about SOA ? a stand-in for 'Services Oriented
Architecture'. It also seems as if there are as many notions of what a
SOA is as there are people. We'll address various challenges in the
enterprise that appear to be solved by SOA. Additionally, in this
session, we will talk about standards related to the building of a SOA,
including Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and Java Business Integration
(JBI). Both prove helpful for component providers and developers alike
in building SOA-based solutions, much in the manner that J2EE (Java EE)
has done for multi-tier applications.

We'll discuss details of both ESB and JBI and illustrate, using a 'real'
world scenario, a travel agency service that employs ESB and JBI in
building a composite application for booking reservations.

Other technologies that we'll touch upon are things like service
engines, such as BPEL, and a variety of different 'binding' components.

Lastly, if time permits, I'd like to show some of the new Enterprise
features of the NetBeans 5.5.1 IDE that aid in building composite
applications and that leverage ESB and JBI. They will show how you can
quickly get started in creating these composite applications.
